Quarter 3 Ends on 3/10

Hi Parents and Guardians!

Just wanted to check in with you about the end of Quarter 3 coming up. The Quarter ends on March 10th, and all work students want graded needs to be in to me by Friday, March 11th at midnight. If they need more time, then they need to contact me about it. Please encourage your student to reach out if they need help, have questions, or need more time.

This is the time in the semester when it is really, really beneficial to take stock of the progress in the course...
  • Are they halfway through the course?
  • Are they making scores that indicate strong learning?
  • Are they confident in their knowledge and progress?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, then it is time to meet up with me about it! :)
As always, contact me with any questions!
Sincerely, Amanda

Now, we are rolling...

Hi Parents,

We are 2 weeks into the semester now, and things are really ramping up! Students should be done with introductions and starting on the coursework. There are still a few schedule changes happening, so there are a few coming in and out of courses, but for the most part everyone is where they need to be. Here are the announcements for this week, with a few key reminders for students: Week 3 Announcements.

There are a few key habits that you can help to instill here at the beginning to support your student...
  • keeping track of what assignments are due when
  • checking for feedback from the teacher
  • communicating when questions and frustration arises
  • logging in regularly

The last one, in particular, is vital. If they are not logging in regularly, then they will be spending significant (and wasted) time reorienting themselves each time they do login. Encourage them to stay on top of it! :) Watch PowerSchool for progress, and if you see them slipping, help them catch up.

As always, contact me with any questions at all!
Sincerely, Amanda

Welcome to Spring 2016!

Hi Parents,
Hope this post finds you well and ready for the second part of the school year! As we begin the Spring 2016 semester, there are a few key things to note:

  • Canvas is the Learning Management System for courses - It is very user friendly! For the moment, we don't have direct parent access, but soon will have the ability for parents to observe their child's progress through the courses. For now, you can access courses through the following links. Just choose the course you need access to at the bottom of this post.
  • Communication is Vital - I can not stress enough that students need only to reach out if they need something or have a question. Please encourage them to no hesitate to reach out!
  • Get Access to PowerSchool - Your school secretary will have the information that you need to access your student's grades on PowerSchool. Checking regularly will let you know how your student is progressing in the course.

Let's get this semester started, shall we? Looking forward to working together!
Sincerely, Ms. A

The Final Stretch

Dear Parents,

Here we are with 9 days left in the semester!! As stated in the graphic, all assignments are due by this Friday, and students have next week to wrap up any details for the course... missing assignments, re-doing low grades, etc. Everything must be submitted by 12/17.

I will be out of town from 12/14 until the end of the winter break, so I will not be in contact. All work that is submitted after I leave will be graded upon my return and submitted with the semester grades.

You can help your student manage the stress of the end of the semester in a number of ways...
  • Make sure that they are managing their time well
  • Make sure that they are getting enough sleep, exercise and nutrition to function well
  • Check that they are prioritizing their work effectively
  • Be there for them when they need you!

I wish everyone an amazing winter break! Please contact me with any questions. I will be in the office this week. Any calls and emails from next week, I will return at the end of the winter break.

Sincerely, Amanda

3 Weeks Remaining in F15

Hi Parents!

We are in the process of wrapping up the Fall 2015 semester. There are 3 weeks remaining. The Pacing Guides that list the due dates for the courses finish on 12/11, leaving one week for students to wrap up any missing assignments. ALL WORK IS DUE BY 12/17. I will also be gone the final week of the semester traveling. Grades will be updated upon my return and before grades are due for the semester. Final grades will be posted by January 3rd.

I encourage you to help your student manage the stress of the end of the semester by helping them to budget time and organize/prioritize their work. Students are still young and developing these abilities. They often get bogged down at this time of year leading to a lot of frustration and heartache.

Students who are significantly behind are encouraged to contact me about the possibility of an extension for the course. Extensions are an agreed upon additional time to complete work for the course with a clear deadline. They offer the flexibility that some students need to complete the courses to the best of their ability.

If you have any questions, please contact me!
Sincerely, Ms. A

Eligibility Check Coming Next Monday!

Hi Parents!

Just a head's up that that there is an eligibility check coming next Monday! This means that it is a grade check for all students who are in extra-curricular activities. Any student who is not passing will have a 5 days to raise their grades to a passing level. It is important to realize that for distance ed classes, we override E grades and Q grades with the S grade. So, it is vital that you and your student focus on the Semester grade continually.

Let me know if you have questions!
Thanks, Amanda
