ATTENTION STUDENTS:

This message is addressed to students enrolled in KPBSD online classes who are at risk of not completing their Distance Learning course by the end of the semester. If you are not currently taking online classes through the KPBSD Distance Learning Program or if you are able to complete the course by the end of the semester, please disregard this message.

The end of the fall term is December 21, 2016 and it is quickly approaching. The KPBSD Distance Learning Program is committed to helping students progress toward a timely graduation. With this in mind, Distance Learning is providing an opportunity for students who are working on their online courses and need some extra time to finish, to extend the class through January 31st, 2017.

Important facts to keep in mind about this extension:

  • At the end of the semester, students will be issued the grade they have earned. After a student successfully completes the course during the extension the final grade will be changed and that new grade and credit will be reflected on the official transcript.
  • The grade earned on the last day of the first semester, December 21, 2016, will be used for evaluating eligibility for sports and school activities at the beginning of the following semester, in January 2017. For this reason, students involved in sports or other school activities for which they must be eligible need to have at least a passing grade by December 21, 2016, for ensuring their eligibility.
  • During the Winter Break the online instructors will NOT be in their office, but they will come back on January 9th 2017. Upon enrollment in the extension, students will receive an email from their online teacher with further directions.
QualificationsTo qualify for the winter extension, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. been currently enrolled and active in the class (submitted lessons or completed online tasks)
  2. have completed the online application for extension prior to December 14, 2016
  3. have asked for and received a recommendation for the extension from the online teacher
  4. have discussed the extension with their parents or guardians

Click on this link to access the online application for the extension.

The goal of the Distance Learning Program is for students to finish courses at the end of the traditional school semester. This extension is designed for those who miss this goal. The above requirements are designed to help ensure students receiving an extension are serious about working on their classes.

If you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact your online teacher.
